  1. A cactus or cacti is a plant of the family
  2. Cactaceae, although the term is commonly

  4. prickly plants. True cacti have a woody 
  5. central core overlaid with an enlarged fleshy
  6. stem, which assumes various forms and is 
  7. usually covered with spines. They all have
  8. special adaptations to growing in dry areas.
